Léa Taranto, BFA'17, MA'23

I am earnestly grateful for UBC’s Creative Writing program, where many peers mutually inspired and facilitated my writing growth. Professors like Annabel Lyon, Nancy Lee, John Vigna, Amber Dawn, and Susin Nielsen blew me away with their craft skills and kindness.

My MFA autofiction thesis, A Drop in the Ocean, about coming of age in residential treatment for life-threatening obsessive compulsive and comorbid disorders, is being published by Arsenal Pulp Press with the release date May 20, 2025.

Author Li Charmaine Anne says of it: “Prepare to get your heartstrings played like an electric guitar,” calling protagonist Mira, “an unforgettable character who will challenge preconceived notions of mental illness…”

There will be a local launch at Iron Dog Books on May 21 and a Toronto launch at Another Story Bookshop on May 29.
