Greta Elizabeth Oak, age 87 of Parksville, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at Victoria General Hospital.

Born on November 26, 1937, in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, she was a beloved mother, sister, aunty, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Greta was known for her love of family, nature, and her Metis culture.

Greta studied at UBC and received a BSc in Pharmacy in 1960. She was the first Indigenous woman in Canada with a degree in Pharmacy.

She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Richardson (Isaac Romano), Judy Richardson (Mike McBryan); grandchildren, Jacquelyn Morris (Kyle Lindsay), Jaymie Morris, Ryan Morris (Rae Morris), Juliet Mackie (François Laliberté), Raphael Mackie (Alison Werk), Rupert Mackie; and great-grandchildren, Linden, Levi, Eiylah, Max, and Callan.

A beautiful service was held on July 6, 2025, at Knox United Church in Parksville, officiated by Reverend Foster Freed. Donations can be made in Greta’s memory to her favourite charity, the Society of Organized Services (SOS) in Parksville.
