Homecoming at UBCO: 10 things to see, taste and do
Welcome back home, UBCO.
UBC Homecoming is the university’s premier celebration of school spirit for students, staff, faculty, Emeriti — and of course alumni coming back to campus! Past Homecoming events at UBCO have included scavenger hunts, wine tastings, street fests and special celebrity appearances by Scott Helman, Steve Patterson and Jon Montgomery.
Presented by RBC, UBC’s fourth annual Homecoming celebrations on the Okanagan campus will be held from September 24 to 25, 2021 and feature a wide variety of fun activities for alumni, students and the whole UBCO family.
Here are 10 things to see, taste and do at this year’s Homecoming:
1. Celebrate from home, wherever home may be
Not based in the Okanagan? No problem. We’ve got you covered with our UBCO Homecoming at Home kits. UBCO alumni and students who sign up by August 15 will receive a free celebration package (while supplies last), and will be entered to win a $250 local business gift certificate.
2. Attend an event
This year our exciting Homecoming line-up includes live virtual events, pop-up experiences and on-demand educational content. Learn about Okanagan wines, paint together from home, or take in a live virtual keynote by Douglas Coupland (DLitt'10).
3. Enter to win an Okanagan vacation giveaway
Whether it’s a vacation or a staycation, we’re giving away an Okanagan package valued at over $1,500. Watch for the exclusive Homecoming giveaway post for UBCO alumni and students on Instagram in September.
4. Support students by showing your UBC pride
The Alumni Collection product line features artistic collaborations with alumni with proceeds benefiting UBCO student funds. When you purchase Alumni Collection gear you’re supporting future UBC alumni.
5. Colour your UBCO
Colouring books are a fun way to destress, relax, and improve mental health and wellbeing. Brought to you by alumni UBC and the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, Colour My UBCO features original artwork by students, alumni and the UBCO community. Sign up to receive your free hard copy book while supplies last.
6. Volunteer with fellow alumni
In partnership with the Okanagan Fruit Tree Project, this hands-on volunteer experience brings alumni to a local orchard for a morning of fruit harvesting. Fruit will be donated to local programs that address food insecurity, including the Pantry, UBCO’s student food bank.
7. Eat a UBC Waffle
The UBC Waffle officially launches during Homecoming weekend at UBCO — because what else sounds like home than fresh, homemade waffles? Enjoy a free waffle on Friday, September 25 from 8:30 am to 11:00 am at Sunshine or the Nechako Residence Dining Hall and help kick off Homecoming weekend!
8. Pop by a pop-up
Keep watch for pop-ups on campus and on Instagram during Homecoming including the light up of the University Centre Building in blue and gold.
9. Enter the Homecoming photo contest
Share a photo on Instagram of how you’re celebrating Homecoming 2021 using #UBCOHomecoming and you’ll be entered to win a $250 local business gift card!
10. Visit the FINA Gallery alumni exhibition
Held at FINA Gallery in the Creative and Critical Studies building, the exhibition will feature a collection of works by alumni artist, Sara McDonald (BFA'00, MA'12). The exhibition runs from September 24 to 30, 2021.
