Aloy Anyichie, PhD'19

I’m honoured and excited to share that I’ve been nominated for the 2025 Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards — a national recognition celebrating immigrants who are making a meaningful and lasting impact in Canada.

As a proud alumnus of UBC’s Faculty of Education, this nomination is especially meaningful. During my time at UBC, I had the privilege of being the brain behind the establishment of the Cultural Diversity Support Office for International Graduate Students, where I also served as the first coordinator. That office housed within the Faculty of Education is a vital space for fostering inclusion, mentorship, and community among culturally diverse learners.

Since graduating, I’ve remained committed to the mission of equity, access, and culturally responsive education. I currently serve as a faculty member at Brandon University, where my research on student engagement and motivation in diverse learning environments has received both national and international awards. Through my community-based initiative, Loy Excellentia Initiative, I continue to support international students, especially African and Black students and professionals across Canada with mentorship, leadership development, and advocacy.

This recognition isn’t just about me — it’s about all of us. It reflects the values and vision of UBC, and how the university continues to shape educators who are committed to making a difference.

Voting is open until June 5, 2025, and I’d be truly grateful for your support.
