What advice do you wish you’d gotten when you started your first job?
Support new UBC graduates by sharing your career stories and advice. Submit by May 25, and your response could be featured in UBC Magazine!
Think back to your first year of work as a new UBC graduate — is there any advice you wish you’d received? Or is there any hard-won lesson or top tip you’ve since learned that you think every new alum should know when they enter the workforce?
In our next Readers Write call-out, we’d love to tap into the wisdom of the alumni community and hear your career stories and advice for new graduates. With more than 10,000 UBC Vancouver and Okanagan students set to receive their diplomas this spring, we know that finding jobs — and starting them well — will be on the minds of many of our youngest alumni.
Help UBC graduates kick off their professional journey on a strong footing by answering the main question in the form below. If you have a bit more time, answer any of the bonus questions that follow — they’ll provide our newest grads with further insights into what to expect when it comes to landing, and launching into, full-time work as a young alum.
Submit your career stories and advice by May 25, 2025, and we’ll feature a selection of reader responses in an upcoming article. Thank you for taking the time to support our new graduates!
If your response is selected, your name, degree, and graduation year will be published (e.g. Jane Doe, BA'12), unless you indicate that you wish to remain anonymous. Responses may be edited for clarity and length.
