James Craigen, MEd'75

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James (Jim) Craigen on April 6, 2024, in his 84th year. He has rejoined his beloved wife of 58 years, Geri, after her recent passing.

Jim's University of Ottawa degree fuelled a lifelong dedication to education, as English teacher and coach at Donevan Collegiate in Oshawa, and teacher development trainer. His adventurous spirit led him to UBC for his master's degree, teaching at the Department of National Defense in Germany and other worldwide locations.

These experiences fed his outgoing personality and genuine interest in others. Jim took great pride in staying active, be it walking, skiing, cycling, golfing, or socializing with relentless exuberance. Jim delighted in family gatherings at the Tweed cottage. As the oldest sibling, he led by example with his upbeat spirit and positive approach to life's challenges. Jim is survived by his three children: Suzanne (Trace), Christine (Darin), and Michael (Tara); and five grandchildren: Nicola, Cam, Beth, Liam, and Isaac. He will be dearly missed by his siblings: Moe, Karen (Chas), and Mike (Gail).

A memorial visitation will be held at McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam Funeral Home Ltd., 152 King St. E., Oshawa, Thursday, May 30, 2024, 2-4 p.m. and Friday, May 31st, 6-8 pm. A memorial mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church (214 Simcoe St. N., Oshawa), Saturday, June 1, 2024, 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be shared at makfuneralhome.com.
