In Memoriam
Our beloved mother, June Alexander, passed away on December 22, 2021, at the age of 102 years. Mom was interested in the world and loved to travel and have new experiences. She loved to laugh. She especially loved her family. She was a wonderful cook. She loved a full glass of wine and a hot cup of coffee.
Mom and Dad, Lloyd George Alexander BASc’52, met while they were students at UBC. Mom graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts (Social Work) and was working towards her master’s degree when Dad got his first engineering job, in Edmonton, Alberta. Mom was a social worker, kindergarten teacher, and yoga teacher.
She and Dad lived many years at Lacombe Lake, Alberta, where they created a warm and welcoming home for our many fun family gatherings. With great love for the lake, wildlife, birds, and us, they truly were the spirit of the place. Mom adored the summer and kayaked on the lake until her 87th year. She also enjoyed swimming, gardening, cooking, and reading, and had a Feldenkrais practice and a meditation practice. Mom remained in her home at “the lake” until just after her 100th birthday celebration, after which she moved to Calgary.
Left with cherished memories are her four loving children, Ted (Yvonne), Anita (Richard), Marni (Rob), and Rob; 10 grandchildren and many loving partners; and 15 great-grandchildren, with one more due soon. June is also fondly remembered by dear friends, Shirley, Pearl, Carol, and Marj.
June was predeceased by her loving husband Lloyd George Alexander, after 63 years of happy marriage, on October 13, 2015; her beloved and never forgotten first husband Edward Addy Davis on January 30, 1944, who died in WWII; her parents, John Sydney and May Sybil Byrom (née Harlock); and her dear sisters, Anna, Pat, and Rosemary.
Mom was an inspiration to all of us with her joie de vivre, generosity, kindness, compassion, gratitude, and courage.
