Roger Purves, BSc'57, MA'59

Roger Purves died suddenly while walking on January 13, 2023. He was one of three math majors at UBC, all of whom went on to have brilliant careers. Roger taught introductory classes at UC Berkeley for decades, influencing hundreds of students to enjoy statistics. With two colleagues, he wrote the seminal textbook, Statistics, which is still used today. Roger is survived by his wife, Caroline (BSc'59), and his children, Conan and Miranda.
