A portrait of David C. Whetter with short white hair, glasses, and a black collared jacket
David C. Whetter, BArch'70, MSc'76

David graduated from the UBC School of Architecture in 1970 and subsequently completed a master’s degree in business administration. During his architectural program, he was a member of the first Studies Abroad term in Venice, which eventually became an annual opportunity that took place in different cities each year.

David was an early, and the longest-serving, partner of Cornerstone Planning Group, as well as a respected leader in the field of facility and infrastructure planning. Over his distinguished career, he shaped countless projects across Canada and mentored many of the professionals working in this field today. His thoughtful approach, steady presence, and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on clients, colleagues, and communities.

David passed away on April 15, 2025, after a brief illness. Until the end, he maintained his signature sharp wit, deep insight, and unwavering grace. He is profoundly missed by his wife, Robin; extended family; and a lifetime’s worth of close colleagues and friends.

In David’s honour, Cornerstone Planning Group has gifted support for SCARP’s David and Robin Award in Community and Regional Planning.
