Sherry Zhao, PhD’15
Sherry Zhao is responsible for working with major industry partners to support their innovation pipeline. A first-generation immigrant, Sherry believes deeply in the power of diversity and globalization: she serves on the UBC China Council, and as a steering committee member for the NEXT leaders initiative at the Business Council of British Columbia.
What attracted you to this organization?
The mission of Mitacs resonates with me very well to inspire innovation by developing human capital.
What excites you about this role/organization?
In my role I work as a trusted adviser to high potential companies to curate their talent pipeline and innovation pipeline. I also lead a high performing diverse Business Development team consisted of PhDs and MBAs.
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership means leading by example and elevating people around you to achieve common goals. It's about the betterment of the collective.
What lesson have you learned from a leader you admire?
Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. A good leader must have the quality of being a good communicator.
What's the best piece of career advice you've received?
Be curious and never be afraid to ask questions!
