Cannabis Regulation and the Workplace, featuring Michael Litchfield, BA’00, LLB’04

The legalization of cannabis in Canada in 2018 brought with it uncertainty for management and human resources professionals across the country. While many of the fears expressed in the build up to legalization have not materialized, those responsible for the development of safe and productive workplaces in Canada are still left with many unanswered questions. The recent legalization of edibles and consumables, which can be consumed in more discreet ways, has only increased the desire for guidance in this important area.

In this webinar, Michael Litchfield, BA’00, LLB’04, will provide an introduction to the regulation of cannabis in Canada and its impact on the workplace. A variety of topical issues will be canvased including the rights of employers to regulate cannabis use in the workplace, the duty to accommodate users of medical cannabis in the workplace and the place of cannabis in work related social events.

About the Speaker

Michael Litchfield, BA’00, LLB’04 is an educator, lawyer and management consultant and is a Director of Thinklab Consulting Inc. and the Cannabis Education Corporation.  Michael’s work is focused on the provision of training and professional development for clients in a wide range of sectors.

In addition to his private sector work, Michael holds a variety of academic appointments including as the Director of the Business Law Clinic at the University of Victoria, Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia and Associate Faculty at Royal Roads University. Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Laws from the University of Victoria and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Victoria where his research focuses on Cannabis Regulation in Canada.

Michael is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of BC.
