In Memoriam
It is with monumental sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Howard Hall. Ron was born in Red Deer, Alberta, on March 25, 1943. After a brief illness, he passed away on August 1, 2024, at his home on Saturna Island.
Ron moved with his family from Red Deer, Alberta, to North Vancouver in 1957, then Webster’s Corners in 1960, and then Haney in 1966. Ron attended Maple Ridge High School in Grade 12, graduating in 1961. He continued at Maple Ridge High School to complete his Senior Matriculation year. While going to school, Ron worked at Haney Correctional Institute and Labatt’s Brewing Company.
Ron attended UBC where he completed his BSc in Mathematics in 1967 and his MSc in Computer Science in 1970. Ron worked in the Computing Centre at UBC, retiring as a Senior Computing Analyst.
Ron bought his first home in Vancouver, then sold it and bought a Heritage home in West Point Grey with his wife Kirsten. It was there that they raised their daughter, Alexandria, and son, Terrence.
Ron loved the great outdoors which prompted him to buy property near Lac La Hache and later, his dream property on Saturna Island. Ron was nearing the completion of his cabin at the time of his death.
Ron was very active in the community on Saturna Island, holding positions in many organizations, and was an avid Pickle Ball enthusiast. He formed great friendships with the wonderful residents of Saturna Island and knew this was where he belonged.
Ron will be remembered as a quiet, thoughtful person with strength, perseverance, and a positive attitude. He was committed to keeping family close and we will cherish the wonderful memories that he left us with. He has many life-long friends who will miss his witty sense of humour and genuine kindness.
Ron is predeceased by his father, John Hall (1995); mother, Doris Hall (2009); and brother-in-law, Norman Keyes (2021).
He will be lovingly remembered by his dearest friend, Jeanne Crerar; daughter, Alexandria (Murray); precious granddaughter; son, Terrence; former wife, Kirsten; sisters, Beverley Keyes and Pat Carter (Dick); brothers, Raymond (Diane), Vern (Tricia), and Larry (Cindy); many nieces and nephews; and countless friends that he made over the years.
May he rest in peace and know how very much he was loved.
