Fifty years after graduating from UBC, Judy (McAfee) Toews launched a new career as a crime writer with the release of Give Out Creek (Mosaic Press, May 2018). The book was shortlisted for an Arthur Ellis Award for Best Unpublished Manuscript, as well as the 2019 Lefty Award for Best Debut Mystery Novel. Second in the series, Lucky Jack Road, will be published this May. A former teacher, nutritionist, and non-fiction author, Judy attributes her fascination with forensics to her science training. Her novels are set in Nelson, BC, where she lives with her husband David Toews (BSc’68, MSc’75).
