“I am deeply honoured to be the recipient of the SOCAN Foundation/MusCan Award for Excellence for the Advancement of Research in Canadian Music,” Dr. Rea Beaumont writes. A Canadian composer-pianist and UBC alumna, she is the recipient of this prestigious national award that acknowledges her work as a leading expert in the field of Canadian music. Throughout her career, Beaumont has introduced international audiences to the music of Canada through her concerts, recordings, broadcasts, and publications. Her book Composer Barbara Pentland examines the life and works of the Vancouver musician, who was one of the first women to be a professional composer in Canada. Beaumont states: “I greatly enjoy introducing audiences around the world to Canadian music and highlighting the diversity in our culture.”
