In Memoriam

Avrum Soudack
Avrum Soudack, UBC Professor

It is with sorrow that we announce the death of Dr. Avrum Soudack on May 28, 2022. He is survived by his wife Naava; his children Ruthi, Naava, Aviam, and Advah; his brother Siggy and sister Ruthi; and grandchildren Ethan and Nora.

Avrum was loved by many for his warmth, jokes, stories, and intellect. He was born in Winnipeg and studied at the University of Manitoba. He obtained a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1961 and moved to Vancouver to begin a career at UBC until his retirement in 2006. Avrum was an animated professor, admired by students and colleagues.

In 1978, he married Naava Nachmani. They travelled extensively, and enjoyed music, theatre, and visual arts. Avrum played the piano, violin, organ, and oboe. He was a voracious reader. An animal lover, Avrum volunteered for many years at the SPCA. He grew prize-winning dahlias, and photography was his lifelong hobby. His family was Zionist, and he spent periods of his life in Israel.

Avrum passed away in his home, surrounded by loved ones. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace. May his memory be a blessing.
