Ivana Stjepovic, LLB'90

Since giving up the practice of law (over fifteen years divided between Vancouver, London, and Milan) I have begun writing in my free time, mostly short stories. I have a story (The Black Madonna) published in the anthology, Personal Bests Journal Issue 4 (Gardiner, ed) available on Amazon. The story is loosely inspired by an episode of my mother's youth, growing up in postwar Croatia (then Yugoslavia). The journal, published as a book, contains the authors' picks of what they each consider to be their best short stories to date and as such is a unique collection. It is also an attempt to raise the status of writers in the short story genre, who remain "the Cinderellas of the literary world" as David Gardiner puts it, by sharing all the royalties equally between the contributors.
