In Memoriam
We are sad to announce that Luke Nakashima, 85, passed away on April 6, 2022. Luke was born in North Vancouver in January 1937, and was four when the family was interned during WWII. He earned his BSc (chemistry and math) at UBC in 1959, the first in his family to go to university, and became a flight lieutenant of the 409 “Nighthawk” All-Weather Interceptor Squadron (RCAF). Luke met his wife, Micki, at UBC and They were married on August 3, 1963. After leaving the Air Force, he went to UBC to earn his teaching certificate.
He taught at and was department head at Lord Byng and Magee schools in Vancouver until retiring in 1998. To his students, he was Mr. Nak. A member at Quichena Golf Club since 1974, his passion was golf, and he was delighted to get four holes in one! He is survived by his wife, Micki, his children, Lynne (Yu-Zhi), Patti (Steve), and James (Yeni), and his grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Amy, and Jaden.
