In Memoriam

Kersti Krug, BA'65, MBA'90, PhD'99

Kersti Krug died peacefully at home on January 14, 2024, following a diagnosis of ALS. Kersti was a lifelong UBC enthusiast, largely because of the many wonderful people she got to know, work with, and befriend.

Kersti began her working years at UBC as program coordinator and senior research assistant at the Resource Centre, Faculty of Graduate Studies, from 1968 to 1972. During the 1960s and 1980s, she explored the world beyond UBC at Simon Fraser University as assistant director of Personnel Services, and with the federal government as assistant director of the National Gallery of Canada. In 1988, getting back in touch with her preferred environment, Kersti returned to UBC to complete an MBA.

On graduating from the MBA program, Kersti became director of Communications at the Museum of Anthropology, and concurrently “moonlighted” as acting director of the Arts Administration Option and instructor for the MBA Program; research assistant, Marketing, at the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration; Instructor, Continuing Studies; and Director, Certificate Program in Museum Studies at MOA. She followed this with appointments as a sessional lecturer in Marketing at the Sauder School, and in 1998 took on the role of director of Studies, Master’s Program in Critical Curatorial Studies, with the Department of Anthropology and Sociology.

In 2001, Kersti joined the Faculty of Graduate Studies as assistant dean, Strategic Development and Communications, and in 2007 became assistant principal, Strategic Development and Administration, College for Interdisciplinary Studies.

Kersti’s writings and publications, largely in collaboration with other UBC folks, were too numerous to list here.

Kersti treasured her many years and roles with UBC, and left us harbouring great affection and respect for her many UBC colleagues. May Kersti rest in peace – her work and life well done!
