In Memoriam
Sadly, Harold left us on December 15, 2021. He came to UBC in 1957 with fellow Trinidadians, began his teaching career in Coquitlam in 1963, and later received a master's degree at San Diego State University.
Harold was dedicated to improving science curricula for his students. He also authored and published many resources, including a biology textbook and a book on prostate cancer. In 1985 Harold was named "Canada's Outstanding Biology Teacher.” His students remember him fondly, once inscribing a card “To Sir, with Love.” Never idle, Harold loved cooking, golfing, skiing, gardening, and travelling. Despite living 64 years in Canada, he never forgot his roots: “I am a country boy at heart." No wonder he loved spending time at his son's Shuswap Lake cabin.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his family: Nancy and their two children Bill and Nila; daughter-in-law Cindy; granddaughters Rosie, Rebecca, and Robyn; great-granddaughter Halle; his loving partner Shireen; sisters Rose (Jack) and Sheila (Lloyd); and extended family and friends worldwide.
