Darshan Sihota
Darshan Sihota, BSF'79
December 5, 1956 - May 21, 2022

Darshan passed away peacefully on May 21, 2022, at the age of 65, after a fierce battle with lymphoma. He was born on December 5, 1956, to Joyce (née Moll) and Dedar Sihota in Vancouver, BC, the fourth of seven children. He spent his early years in White Rock on his family’s 10 acres, where his love of the outdoors and large machinery was born. In school, he excelled in math and science and was an early adopter of technology.

In 1979 Darshan graduated from UBC with a BSc in Forestry. Over his 40-year career in the forestry industry, he worked for Crown Zellerbach, Fletcher Challenge, TimberWest, Brookfield Asset Management, and finally became the president and CEO of Island Timberlands. In 2005 he also acquired an MBA from Royal Roads University. By the time he retired in 2019, he was known as an innovator and a pioneer in his field. He always took pride in being a leader that listened to his team, and this approach made him well-respected and admired among his colleagues.

Darshan will be missed by his beloved wife Shalene, his daughters Danika (Jeff) and Genevieve (Matt) and sons Shamus (Michelle) and Shaun (Melissa), as well as his grandchildren Jackson, Shaylah, Scott, Stella, Juliet, Eleanor, James, Frankie, Sophie, Mabel, and Emily, born in July, along with many extended family members and friends.
