Class Acts
I went to UBC back in 1988, fresh out of high school, with an ultimate goal of becoming a lawyer. When my late wife and I had our daughter when we were 18, during our first December exam period at UBC, I left school to go to work. My late wife completed her degree at UBC in microbiology, before graduating from the BEd program at UBC and becoming a teacher.
I started attending part-time college classes in my 30s. I was more focused, driven, and enjoyed school much more in my 30s. I was fortunate enough to be accepted to UBC Law in my late 30s, and I graduated in my 40s.
After I graduated from UBC Law, I obtained an articling position with CBM Lawyers (a local, mid-size law firm in Langley). I have been at CBM Lawyers for a little over 10 years and just recently became a partner.
In my case, I found that it was not too late to fulfill my educational goal. I am extremely pleased and proud that I attended UBC Law and managed to work my way up to becoming a partner at CBM Lawyers.
I encourage others to hold onto and try to achieve any educational goals, even if they need to put their education on hold for a couple of years or, like me, for couple of decades.
